Philosophy of Athletics
Athletics is an opportunity in which students can experience the demands and successes of working with their peers towards a common goal. This platform allows participants to showcase their talents, along with the results of their combined hard work, self-discipline, and sacrifice.

Student-athletes benefit from learning the importance of teamwork. They learn that success comes as a result of setting individual and team goals, and preparing a plan to reach these goals and following that plan. This aspect of athletics is crucial.

Working together, maintaining focus, and being committed to the team are the key ingredients to success in life. These tasks must be taught and practiced consistently to become habits. Once they become habits, the athlete’s contribution to the “team” (football, family, friends or coworkers) becomes indispensable.

Goals for Success: Attitude is the KEY to success!
· Developing self-confidence and self-worth.

· Teaching the values of hard work.

· Developing the habits of dedication and sacrifice.

· Teaching leadership skills.

· Developing life-long character traits.

· Teaching the importance of a proper mental attitude.

A successful athletic program teaches values and ethics that can be utilized in all aspects of a student’s life.

Education describes societies attempt to create independent thinkers. If students are taught how to learn, be resourceful and become problem solvers, they greatly increase their opportunities for happiness and success for the future. That future will encompass good citizenship, the ability to assume responsibility and fulfill professional and personal obligations.

Learning how to learn is a crucial step in a student’s success. An “Education” offers a student the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential.

Athletics and Education feed off one another. Success in Athletics breeds success in the classroom. Success in Education breeds success on the field / court. Athletics should contribute to the overall development and maturity of the student-athlete. Encouragement of the student / athlete to understand the importance of self-discipline and hard work is the foundation of a successful program (which includes both the classroom and the team). The coaches and athletic program should be used as a resource by teachers and parents to develop a mature and disciplined student.
